In the hot forging steel process, the temperature needs to be accurately controlled. Forging temperature measurement methods include visual measurement and instrument temperature measurement. The temperature measurement methods of the instrument include: optical pyrometer temperature measurement, thermocouple temperature measurement, etc. Optical pyrometer is a relatively convenient, high temperature measurement, and quite accurate temperature measuring instrument. When there is no temperature measuring instrument on site or the temperature measuring instrument is inaccurate, the temperature of the steel has to be judged according to the color of the steel.

When steel is heated above 530℃, it will emit light of different colors, and the change of its color is related to the heating temperature. As the temperature of the steel material increases, the color of the steel changes from dark to light, and the brightness gradually increases. Therefore, the actual temperature of the steel can be judged according to the color of the steel. The temperature corresponding to each color is shown in the table.

When visually inspecting the heating temperature of steel, pay attention to the different conditions such as day and night, sunny and cloudy, and the intensity of the light on site. In the dark, the observed fire color is relatively brighter. If you do not pay attention to the differences in these occasions, large errors will occur. Nevertheless, it takes a long time to accumulate experience in order to accurately measure the temperature visually, and the temperature error of the visual inspection can be accurate to 20-50°C.
