The metal is usually heated to a certain temperature before forging. Heating can not only increase the plasticity of the metal, withstand large deformations and is not easy to crack, but also can reduce the deformation resistance of the metal, and greatly reduce the force required for forging. At the same time, in a suitable temperature range, the forging undergoes greater forging deformation, resulting in recrystallization, allowing the forging to obtain fine grains and a good structure, thereby improving mechanical properties. Therefore, heating is an indispensable and important process in hot forging production.

According to the production work order sheet, in the order of furnace installation, load it into the designated heating furnace. When installing the furnace, the raw materials should be checked in detail to prevent the confusion of variety and quantity. Marks should be placed at the intervals of various varieties and the actual product should be recorded in the original record. The raw materials are heated out of the furnace and sent to the forging equipment for forging production.

Determination of forging heating specifications: On the premise of ensuring that the billet does not crack and the temperature difference in the cross section of the billet is not too large when it is discharged from the furnace, use rapid heating as much as possible to improve productivity and reduce burning loss.

Forging heating method

Forging heating can be divided into flame heating and electric heating according to different heat sources.

(1) Flame heating

Flame heating is the use of high-temperature gas (flame) produced by the combustion of fuel (coal, coke, heavy oil, diesel, gas or natural gas, etc.) in a heating furnace, which transfers heat energy to the surface of the blank through convection and radiation, and then conducts it from the surface to the center , The billet is heated to a certain temperature.

The flame heating method is widely used due to the convenient fuel source, simple equipment, low heating cost, and large size of the heated billet. Its disadvantages are poor working conditions, slow heating speed, and difficult control of temperature and heating quality.

(2) Electric heating

Electric heating is the use of electrical energy converted into heat to heat the metal blank. Electric heating equipment includes resistance furnace, salt bath furnace, induction heating device, etc. Compared with flame heating method, the salient features of electric heating are fast temperature rise (such as induction heating and contact heating), easy control of furnace temperature (such as resistance furnace), less oxidation, decarburization and pollution, good working conditions, and easy realization of mechanization and automation , But the equipment structure is complex and the investment is relatively large. Electric heating is widely used in die forging or non-ferrous metal forging.More about:hot forging steel
